You asked, and we listened! Our latest update of the AirTV Player software has been released. Customers that have their device signed into Google Play will automatically get the update in the next week or so.  This update provides a couple of exciting things:

Use AirTV Player with AirTV

In addition to Roku, FireTV, and Android TV, you can now use AirTV Player as a fully capable client of AirTV for live streaming and DVR.

This allows you to access your DVR recordings from your connected AirTV through your AirTV Player allowing you to do even more in the AirTV family of products.

Continuous Improvement

Bug Fixes – We continue to listen to AirTV fans and made improvements to the AirTV Player’s software to give you a smoother experience. Additional details are available in the android app store.

  1. Integrate Airtv into the windows sling app. I thought the beauty of this would be to stream across my home network and am dissapointed to find it is not fully integrated. You also need to program the system to show up in the same ribbon position on every platform. It is fully intègrated into the Roku app and dumped at the end of the ribbon on Android. This seems a little amateurish and needs work.

    1. Hi William – Thank you for the feedback. We are tuned in to our customers, and will continue to work on improvements to the overall AirTV experience. Your feedback is important as it helps our product team with prioritization and roadmapping of items.

      Thank you,

      1. I keep getting an “Oops! Air TV is already busy” when I try to watch OTA channels on a second TV within my home. Should be 2 streams? I have no DVR set up.

      2. Hi David – When this is occurring, are you completely exited out of the Sling app on the first device or is the app still open? If the Sling app is open on the first device and has an OTA channel (CBS, ABC, etc.) selected this may be the cause of the issue. If this is not the case we encourage you to call our AirTV troubleshooting team at:

  2. The guide needs to provide the local channel numbers and not just the station logos.

    1. Hi James – Thank you for your feature request and recommendation. The Sling App integration does also provide for an integrated guide experience.

      Thank you,
      The AirTV Blog Team

  3. WHEN OH WHEN WILL WE BE ABLE TO STREAM MORE THAN 2 DEVICES AT A TIME!?!?!? And record more then 2 shows at a time!?!? This really limits the viewing ability of a household of 4! Please share with how you can make this happen ASAP!?!?!? Also, I agree! The guide needs channel numbers, not just the name of the channel.

    1. I’m inclined to agree, as a family of 3. There is a regular struggle with being able to record and watch enough shows at a time with the boxes limitations. That, however, isn’t the only limitation(s).

      1) 802.11n is an extremely old Wi-Fi standard that was created back in 2009. This needs to be at *LEAST* updated to the newer 802.11ac (created in 2014, which is what nearly every electronic on the market is made with these days) or 802.11ax (the latest and greatest of 2019).

I believe this to be at least one of the causes of my Wi-Fi issues, given that my internet speeds are 250 MBPS download and 13 MBPS upload, I shouldn’t be seeing pinwheel loading pauses during my shows. In fact, the loading pauses were so bad that I had to hardwire it, which did help quite a bit.

      2) Errors. Random errors seem to occur for no particular reason. Listed are some of the ones I have seen lately:
      – Ensure that your antenna is plugged in (restarted the AirTV and it was detected again)
      – Your hard drive has been ejected (restarted the AirTV and it was detected again)
      – Lost connection to the internet, please check your modem (restarted the AirTV and it was connected again, though i’m not sure how it lost connection to a hardwired cable)

I never used to have to unplug and reconnect my Xfinity box when I was paying Comcast for TV. However, it seems like if I don’t regularly restart my AirTV it spits back all sorts of strange errors like the ones above. Even when I do restart the box daily, I still sometimes need to restart it again.

      3) No AirTV integration to the Windows 10 Sling app or the Sling browser.

–Disclaimer: All of the feedback above is provided with experience using the Sling Roku app, iOS Sling app, Windows 10 Sling app and the Sling website on Chrome–

      1. Regarding my #2 about errors, another prominent error is something about the “AirTV already being in use”. Except it’ll be at like 10 AM when nobody else is even awake and nothing is being recorded.

      2. Hello RF/Michelle – Thank you for sharing your feedback and feature requests.

  4. Apple TV integration with Sling! Also where is an app for MacBook? It’s really annoying that I can’t watch my AirTV or sling on my computer at work.

  5. When are stability improvements coming? I continue to be booted out of the integrated SlingTV app (5x over the course of a few hours the other day) and an unexpected reboot the same day. This experience doesn’t happen on my Roku or Fire Stick only on the AirTV Player. Junk.

    1. Hi Michel – sorry for your experience. We recently rolled out a new update, so we want to ensure you’re on it. This shouldn’t be happening at all, so please contact the AirTV Support team for a better live troubleshooting experience.

  6. Waiting for a fix to connect AirTv OTA channels with sling menu integration via the slip app with an IOS device. Any idea how long this may take? Patiently waiting.

  7. I can set up and connect through the AirTv app, but not the sling app. Phone support tells me it is a problem with the newest IOS software update. They have walked me through set up on multiple iOS phones and iPads. No luck. They assure me there is a fix in the works. Any information would be appreciated.

    1. Hi Mike – Thank you for your patience. It appears your specific issue comes from an OS update Apple recently pushed. AirTV has escalated the issue, and is waiting on a resolution. In the meantime, you can get setup via an android device. Sorry for the inconvenience. We will post updated information as soon as it is available.

      Thank You,
      The AirTV Blog Team

    1. Hey Mike – We apologize that this has been an ongoing issue, and know it has been frustrating. While we have not released a fix as of yet, please be assured that we are working on a resolution for you, and that this is of high priority for our development team. We thank you for your patience.

  8. I bought the 3 month sling on Mar. 16th. I was told that I would be able to get my local stations. I have an off type TV but was told that I could still get the local channels. I was originally hooked up through my Samsung tablet. On the tablet I can of get local TV. On our TV I still cannot get local. All after at least three (3) phone calls trying to solve the problem. I am currently PAYING Sling plus Direct TV.

Do I have to get a Samsung TV in order to get my local stations. I am very frustrated by these problems. I was assured a smooth transition but it has not been that at all. I am honestly considering cancelling my Sling account. HELP!

    1. Hi Paet – With an Amazon Firestick or Roku device you will be able to use Sling and AirTV on your television. If there are any more urgent questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to the AirTV troubleshooting team via phone:

  9. I keep getting a message saying, your channel lineup has changed. resetting the application to update your channels.. this message is popping up all the time and I can’t stop this from doing that

    1. Hi Eric – All you need to do is go to the Settings section on your Sling app, select Over the Air channels and select the re-scan. Once you’ve done this, you won’t see the message anymore. This is an update on our end and you will not lose any of your current channels.

      Thank you,
      The AirTV Blog Team

  10. The AirTv player is bug ridden, It resets all the time and the customer service cant fix it so they say its the connection. To bad for them the Roku Players work way better. All I can say is save your money and go with a Roku. OR just give up on Sling all together and try the Playstation or any other service. Most have a free trial so it cant hurt to look before you lock into something. To me the AirTv pluses were with Sling and the DVR features and if you cant get it to work BOTH need to go.

  11. I can’t connect my black airtv box through the sling tv app, I do everything and then it gets stuck with the Channel Scan Complete message, starting stream and I have left it like that for hours, I have tried to install through several different devices, returned and got a new box, same issue.

    1. Hi R – This has been an issue we have seen pop up more recently. We recommend you call the AirTV troubleshooting team and they can help you with this. You can reach them at:

      1-866-974-1354

  12. I have called and as I said they sent a replacement although I was pretty sure the problem was not with the device considering it was scanning and finding the channels, it is an issue with the app that should have been fixed. I am not going to spend more time on the phone with a company that clearly does not care about the customers, you sell this with a statement on the box “easy to set up with sling app” and it is the worst possible experience, you do no refunds, horrible company.

    1. I have had the exact same problem for 2 months now. Are you trying to connect via the sling app through an iOS device? They tell me that it is a software issue when using an apple product. I was able to connect to the AirTv box and steam setting it up through the AirTv app. Doing it that way will not integrate your locals through the sling guide menu, but you will get channels. Like I said, don’t hold your breath, from what I have read, this is an ongoing problem which sling doesn’t prioritize as and important issue.

Sling if your monitoring this blog, please help us and don’t tell us to call the customer help line. They are no help with our situation. There is a lot of competition in your field, and it appears you are going to loose customers because you can’t fix a software issue. Really????

      1. Hi Mike & R,

This issue is a priority, and we are working in Tandem with Apple to fix it. The recommendation to call our support team is so that they can ask questions regarding device type, and do more of the deep dive work which is more feasible on a phone versus and e-mail or blog. Customers can also chat with us via facebook messenger. We want you to take advantage of fast and immediate troubleshooting, but do try our best to respond to Blog comments.

        Thank you,

        The Blog Team AirTV

  13. Yes, I have tried through several iOS devices, never worked. I was able to do the airtv app but my only reason to buy this piece of crap was to integrate to sling, now it is worthless. Thanks for the reply, I see a lot of people are going through the same issues and sling doesn’t really seem to care, it reminds me how Dish used to treat its customers and why I cancelled and went to directv, I think now they are also sling, same old treatment.

  14. Cut the cord recently and gave up D****TV after 19 years. Using an AirTV with Sling. Overall, the integration is great, and it has made the move easier for the whole family. I do have a few things I would like to see:

    1) A 4 tuner AirTV box, OR the ability to easily chain two dual-tuner AirTV boxes to the same Sling account and get the equivalent of 4 tuners.

    2) The ability to pause and rewind live TV if a hard drive is attached to the AirTV box making it a DVR. Seems like it would just need to start a buffer/temp file on the hard drive once a channel is tuned in.

    3) Improve the recording options, (and this applies to Sling as well), to allow for overages. Nothing worse than watching a show that for some bizarre reason runs 1 minute over and missing the punchline/payoff because the recording stopped dead on the money. What’s really strange is on Sling, it seems almost entirely random. I have some shows that stop dead on time, and others that go 2, 3, 6 or 8 minutes over. I have yet to see a pattern or any other explanation for the extensions.

    1. Hi TLD – Glad you are enjoying the cord cutter experience. Thank you for the feedback. Good news on #2 – you can absolutely pause and rewind live TV if you have your hard drive in and your recording going for your AirTV local channels. As for #1 and #3 – we appreciate the feedback and add it to our features/improvements request list.

      Thanks,
      The AirTV Blog Team
